Air pollution and cardiovascular disease in São Paulo

Recent epidemiologic studies indicate that air pollution is directly linked to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. São Paulo, the most populous city of South America with a numerous automobile fleet is an appropriate place to study air pollution adverse health problems. Evidences showed that air pollutant effects on cardiovascular health of general population increased the hospital admissions, mortality and impact on public health costs, indicating the necessity of air quality policy and control to promote a sustainable development.
