Abstract

This article had the purpose of reviewing the literature on occupational risks related to the exposure of aesthetics workers and the focus is the hairdresser. This individual is exposed to chemical substances contained in products used in it’s daily work. Such substances become more aggressive not only to the environment, but to the person who handles. Study used data covering the databases of the Latin American Health Sciences (LILACS), MedLine, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The following descriptors were related (Desc): Occupational Risks, Occupational Health, Occupational diseases and Barbering, with which we found 90 articles, 63 of these were analyzed and match the pre-established criteria. As results were highlighted national and international studies which have offered subsides to the disclosure of the risks related to occupational exposure to chemical substances arising from work activity of the hairdressers. Approximately 264 thousand and 420 thousand of aesthetics workers in Brazil have increased risk of developing cancer of the lung and larynx, respectively. There is evidence that suggests the need for wellventilated environments to minimize risk. The data prove to be extremely relevant and necessary to thoroughly evaluate the promotion and protection on workers’ health and the environment in this area.
